Who We Are

Humanists Malaysia is a values-driven community committed to promoting human dignity, reason, and kindness in public life. We believe in the power of empathy, open dialogue, and ethical living — grounded in a deep respect for Malaysia’s cultural and social diversity.

Our members come from all walks of life, united by a shared commitment to human well-being, critical thinking, and compassion-led action.

What is Humanism?

Humanism is a worldview that places people — and our shared humanity — at the center of ethical decision-making. It values:

  • Reason and critical inquiry

  • Compassion and mutual respect

  • Personal freedom balanced with social responsibility

  • Lifelong learning and open-minded dialogue

In Malaysia, we interpret humanism through a lens of cultural sensitivity, community empowerment, and inclusive engagement.

Our Story

Founded by a small group of passionate Malaysians, Humanists Malaysia began as a space for respectful conversations around values, ethics, and evidence-based ideas. Over time, we have grown into a recognized chapter of Humanists International, a global network that supports humanist organizations in promoting freedoms, dignity, and cooperation.

We are proud to be the first Malaysian chapter to join this international movement — a reflection of our aspiration to contribute positively to the world while honoring our local context.

Our leadership team includes educators, researchers, artists, and legal professionals who believe in building a better world through human understanding.

Our Values

Humanism is a worldview that places people — and our shared humanity — at the center of ethical decision-making. It values:

Empathy

Listening before judging.

Integrity

Living our values in public and private.

Curiosity

Asking better questions, not just finding answers.

Inclusion

Honoring each individual’s right to dignity and belonging.
